Dean has always enjoyed listening to music and bought his first stereo at age thirteen, with money earned from cutting lawns. He continued his interest in audio by working his way through college selling stereo equipment at a Hi-Fi shop in Waltham, MA. After graduation he moved back home to CT and picked up a job managing Audiotronics, a stereo shop in Norwalk.
After four years at Audiotronics, Dean moved on to Take 5 Audio, in New Haven. Take 5 was a nationally recognized high-end audio shop. It was during this time that video began to evolve from the common 32″ and 36″ CRT televisions, to the 50″ and 60″ rear projection televisions that created a new product category: large screen TV.
In 1992 Dean left Take 5 Audio to work at Design Installations, a Norwalk bases systems integration company founded by his friend Rick Samuel in 1984. Soon after he became a partner and witnesses lighting control, motorized shades, and networks became major electronic categories.
When his partner decided to retire, Dean merged Design Installations with Davco, so he could continue to effectively serve his clients. He handled sales, while Greg DellaCorte, the owner of Davco, managed the day-to-day operations.
Fast forward to 2024 with the purchase of Davco by Daisy, Greg’s retirement, and Dean becoming the GM of Davco while also heading sales.
Forty-six years, one industry. When he started in the business in 1978, wireless remote controls had not yet been invented. Now he works with systems that allow his clients to check the electronic health of their home from around the world. But, just as when he was thirteen, listening to records is still his favorite pastime.
