In this Florida home, a mix of retrofit and new construction challenged Clive Daniel Home Automation, a Daisy partner in Naples, to deliver a full-featured smart home and outdoor AV experience despite limited site access during the build. The project prioritized high-performance outdoor entertainment, elegant, effortless lighting, and reliable whole-home automation for a semi-retired professional who works from home and enjoys spending time with his wife and dog in their lush, private, and expansive outdoor space.

Vision Quest: A Perfect Balance of Work and Pleasure

The client’s vision was clear: to create a visually stunning and serene outdoor living space that harmonized with the home’s open-air architecture and natural surroundings. Departing from the typical covered lanais common in Florida, this outdoor area is intentionally left uncovered to fully embrace the sunlight and showcase unobstructed views of the nearby retention pond and nature preserve. Featuring a swimming pool, fire pit, and fully equipped outdoor kitchen, the space is thoughtfully designed for an effortless outdoor lifestyle.

With remote work a regular part of his routine, the client also needed robust indoor and outdoor connectivity, intuitive control of indoor and outdoor lighting and AV systems, and a reliable, weather-resistant technology that would withstand Florida’s humid climate.

The Great Outdoors: Even Greater with Gracefully Integrated AV

The highlight of the project is the outdoor AV system, where strategically placed Sonance Landscape Series speakers wrap around the pool and property, delivering balanced, immersive sound across the entire backyard. Among the most charming details is a Sonos playlist the homeowner created just for his dog, filling the yard with familiar tunes during their outdoor time together. It’s a small but telling example of how seamlessly and personally the customized technology from Clive Daniel Home Automation can become part of daily life.

Two Samsung outdoor-rated TVs--one in the lanai and another in the outdoor kitchen, complement the audio with clear, vibrant,razor-sharp images. Each display is paired with a Sonos Beam soundbar for rich, localized sound. Rather than trench cabling through the yard to connect the outdoor AV to source equipment inside, Clive Daniel Home Automation wisely elected to store AV sources inside secure, weather-protected enclosures.

The integrator leveraged IP-rated, ventilated enclosures to house critical AV components outdoors, drawing from best practices shared within the Daisy integrator network. This collective experience helped the team overcome challenges related to moisture, heat, and airflow while ensuring long-term reliability.

Interior Motives: Immersive AV and Elegant Lighting Come Inside

The same commitment to effortless AV continues indoors, where Clive Daniel Home Automation installed a Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 theater featuring Sonance speakers and a 77-inch Sony OLED display. A second 77-inch Sony OLED TV, paired with a Sonos Arc soundbar, delivers immersive audio-visual experiences in the home office, ideal for both work and entertainment. To streamline control of these advanced AV setups, Clive Daniel Home Automation programmed a custom URC remote, minimizing button presses and making it quick and easy to enjoy a variety of media content.

Lighting throughout the home is managed by a Lutron Caséta wireless system, configured with the maximum of 60 supported dimmers. In line with the homeowners’ preference for Amazon’sAlexa voice control, Clive Daniel Home Automation opted to leave the wall-mounted keypads unlabeled, enhancing the clean, minimalist aesthetic. Rather than searching for buttons, the owners simply speak commands like “Good Morning,” “Good Night,” “Pool,” and “Landscape” to activate their preferred lighting scenes. For added convenience, the Caséta app provides an intuitive alternative for manual adjustments and scene customization.

Consummate Connectivity: Networking for Business and Pleasure

The home features a Ubiquiti networking system that provides reliable, high-speed Wi-Fi both indoors and out, thanks to strategically placed weather-rated access points. This allows the client to work from anywhere on the property and stream music and video to specific entertainment zones on a whim.

The homeowner’s commitment to using the system daily makes network stability a top priority. Unlike many seasonal residents in the area, he and his family use every feature regularly, making the smart home experience a vital part of their lifestyle.
