Matt, a passionate entrepreneur with a diverse background in the high-end audio and smart home technology industry, was born and raised in Irvine. He currently resides in San Clemente with his wife, Bridget.
Matt’s journey in the technology field began in the mid-1980s when his father, Jim Walin, and Jim’s strategic business partner, Paul Stary, were pioneers in designing, creating, and installing home audio and video systems, control systems, burglar alarms, surveillance systems, and lighting control. Having literally grown up in his father’s business, Unique Electronics, Matt joined Steve Stary, Paul Stary’s son, in his pioneering smart home business in the 1990s, Stary Technologies, as the VP of Operations. Together, they capitalized on the luxury semi-custom production home boom, pioneering standards and a systemized approach to the “custom integration” business.
In 2005, Matt embarked on his solo journey by founding Matt’s Technical Services, focusing on getting ultra-close to customers and building a high-touch approach to service and support. In 2014, Matt recognized the need for expansion and an opportunity for synergy, merging his company with Stary Technologies and his close friend Steve. This gave rise to Brilliant AV, which is now Daisy Orange County.
